Tuesday

Woke up, did my updates, presented information. Meetings end around 10:30.

Answer some questions, send some emails, ask some questions. Etc.

Watch some YouTube on how ai is wild right now. This point in human history is insane.

It’s way faster than people think. Especially with what grok just showed. This video is wild. And it’s a sample an example of what all these ais are doing. What will be the norm and what more advances are now baseline built on. It was a new glimpse at the cutting edge of ai. Which is moving really fast. Seeing where it’s going and what it’s capable of doing. Within such tight horizons. Considering we waited like 10+ years for the Vision Pro to get released. You get the odd leak or hypothetical. And then it finally comes out. Or like how it was when new iPhones were first coming out. Or maybe each GTA game.

It’s hard to fathom these releases. Was like gpt when it first came out was the Nintendo 64. And I got to experience playing goldeneye for the first time. Or super Mario 64 seeing that world in 3D for the first time.

Or the epic world and story and gameplay of Zelda ocarina of time. And in that story how you go from a small forest boy into. And then in the game after completing quests you transform in one scene you’re like locked away for however many years and you’re now this teenage man elf dude, you can carry bigger swords the master sword you get that thing. You can search for this big Gordon sword. That thing was epic. And all these other equipment and armour etc now that you’re big.

That was awesome and spoke to me as a young boy for sure. Getting to experience growing up without having to wait years. Because it was a playable game. There’s many reasons that game resonated.

Point is ai is similar to all those things and here we are. What it can do with images and video is insane. And all these other video voice actor avatar. Like the internet is becoming so hard to distinguish what’s ‘real’ and what’s ai generated. It’s more visceral now because it’s got all these digital actors now. And that will tip into hyper realistic within like. No time. Within the year most likely…. And the thought could continue

My run today was a lunch run. I had some pasta around 11am. Started run at 12:10

My legs were swole. Not sore. But pumped enough they were tougher to move. I was forced to be slower as a result. Where other runs recently. I guess. High level I’ll describe the strategy.

Go for a run daily.

Executing that goal. Means running when I’m sore.

Executing that goal means some runs will not be very long at all. That’s OK. Seriously. Last week I did a 8 minute run at 10:39.

The mental confidence. Also the natural flush it gives you to help you recover for the next day.

You might reduce in KM throughout the week. But lead up to a long run.

Or you might go consistent like same loop but different cadence. Etc.

Some runs I’m actively trying to run slower. I find it more challenging to like. Run super slow. It’s weird. Almost like how it’s tough to walk backwards or when going down hill or putting on brakes. But then when you kick into a more normal pace you pop out of it.

I’m curious to see how I’m able to build to my next big run.

Side note. Because I’m about to wrist a list on paper. Thinking how I wish I had a pop socket on this case. Action item is to order a new phonecase from Altocollective.com that would make it more enjoyable. More efficient and powerful to type here. Right now. Which maybe I’ll do more of. As we lead up to the race.

It’ll be interesting to side bar document AI along the way with these daily journal entries.

Thinking to myself how much I would benefit from a remarkable notepad. For like $1,000

Something I want to just buy because of how many pages of notes I’ve hand written this year. One of those extra large binders.

The thing Strava is getting wrong. How it analyzes my pace. It’s expecting or rewarding faster and faster. BUT.

My strategy is, some runs to actively slow down. Which is almost harder when you’re capable of running faster. It’s weird. Buttt I’ve found awesome. Learning this with the slow. Pushing back on myself to see how slow. The ultra marathon will be a pursuit of consistency for a long period of time. To keep moving. So I’m practicing. Moving slow. But moving. Making progress.

I’m curious how much I’ll walk. And if I should walk early. Or how I work the recovery into it. Or use downhills to regenerate. But it’ll also be tricky for the technical. And sometimes more strenuous. Alas, curious how I’ll manage my strength. My power. My energy in my muscles for the duration of the race.

I’ll have an awareness for how to run efficiently. I’m getting in tune with my ability.

I’m looking forward to these long runs. Because of how much more fresh I’ll be for them. Then follow up with what I’ve done past two days. Yesterday I kicked up some speed to show myself what I can do. But then today I had a bit more of the lead feet going.

So. Reduced effort again tomorrow. And maybe same on Thursday. Then golf Friday. Not sure I’ll get a run in? And then unsure about Saturday. Likely Sunday can get one for sure? Fitting in around the activities. We’ll have to figure out when the next long run can happen. Will aim to be fresh and fueled for a 20k at least. Which also would help if I had some gels or blocks etceteras.

Or frankly just do that loop I did, slow pace myself. But efficient. Then fuel up. Likely for that I’ll try fuelling for every 30mins. So fuel on way out. Half way. And then feel good about doing that loop again. In reverse! Nicee.

Just pulled my training heatmap for the year.

What I did here. Was build out my habit heatmap. The main program allowed me to capture all this data. To keep track of it here in one place these three things.

Practice my running.

Practice my golfing.

Practice my pushups.

I tracked every day. Since Jan 1st is when I started using this latest model of my excel habit tracker.

The power is being able to be consistent with updating it.

My wife saw this thing on Instagram. To keep track of time outside, and you fill in a piece of the picture with your kids. But to calculate what counted and then to keep track and then to fill in. So easy to fall behind. And before long it falls into the recycle bin.

This excel doc in this iteration. Has been good enough for me to keep it updated. It’s not perfect. It is not a hyper polished app that people are used to these days. But it has been quite powerful.

Simply due to the fact that it stores all my habits in once place in several form factors.

I just found a new way I wish to visualize that I quickly did manually. But could easily have automated. As I go about the normal process. It would be able to build these visualizations.

I saw right away that my running for a stretch lacked consistency. But. I also saw my golf was peaking.

Then overlay the pushups on top and you can see how often I have done one of the top 3 things. My consistency is pretty legit.

It is simply interesting to look back on this data that you’ve been accumulating. The breadcrumbs. And then helps you consolidate and use it for how to move forward. What you’ve done to date to look at these data visuals.

Especially when I’ve really started to pursue the daily run now. To feel the dopamine of filling in these days for running. Settling into a really nice training routine.

Which half the battle is getting buy in from those around you. The nice motivation instead of the passive aggressive.

I do feel I have a nice chart. Obviously could have filled in more blue earlier. Or rather in the March April. I was afraid of slipping on ice. Not having my phone with me. Several excuses.

Part of it is getting the gear. Having conditions. And then getting the gear so the conditions don’t matter. Having the commitment so the consistency is king.

The theragun – finally coming into use. Need territory. To have it already able to just use it. This thing is incredibly good at getting my legs pummelled.

Red light box – helped magically recover from leg Achilles and calf strain injuries.
