I slept in. We had a family reunion party last night at the lake. Didn’t go to bed till 12:30 ish
So this morning. I slept in. But all week I’ve been aiming for this day. 20km
I set off at 10:30am.
I ran for 1 hour 16 mins. I had come in as the half way to water up and fuel up and out on some ointment and use the theragun.
The run half way 6km my left foot in particular. I think I tied my laces too tight. Or my feet were swollen. I had some drinks last night. Alas, I kicked off. And my remedy was to loosen up the laces. And lay on my back. Otherwise I felt pretty good.
I’m gaining more skill. More power. I can feel it. Having proved to myself. My natural stride is getting more and more efficient. To just go and go and go.
I had to stop my run at the half way because the kids needed tending to. I did some water sprints with the kids.
Hung out. Fuelled up etc.
Then 3pm I had another opportunity. I kicked off for the reverse loop. I was a little uncertain if I’d hold up. A little strain here and there. I lathered some more of that ointment stuff. No prob. Felt solid. I just used landmark after landmark and was able to keep chugging. Listening to the latest David Goggins book this time.
First run this morning was Dune. Pretty sweet being able to have an activity I can get some podcasts and reading done.
And so I made pretty good time. Fastest 10km to date. In a race I could def go faster and yet. My pacing. Not for 10km. It is for longer. As I feel comfortable I can just keep going and going. Next long run I’ll aim to do a single stretch of 23 or I go for 30. I’ll do a break in between. Then week after I can aim for 40km. We’ll see if I bother going for 50 prior to the race or if I cap at 40 and aim to just get stronger.
Regardless. We set a new watermark today for km in a day. And made reasonable time to complete. Also experienced some resistance with the laces being too tight. My foot was going numb. And so to experience how to fix it more or less was important. All these things. As I prep for the longest run of my life.
